How To Effectively Clean And Maintain Marble Tile

Blog

Marble is one of the most luxurious materials you can get for your flooring. It is hard, durable, and hard to mimic with other materials. However, it is also important that you keep it cleaned and well maintained. Here are some tips to accomplish that.

Have the Marble Floor Sealed

Before you do anything else, make sure your marble flooring tile is sealed. This must be done after having it installed, and then on a routine basis. Your flooring contractor should inform you how often the re-sealing needs to be done. Marble is a durable material, but it can get stained and have issues with excessive water exposure. By sealing it, you are providing it with an additional layer of protection. You still need to clean it well, but the sealant often reduces the risk of permanent damage from spills and mud.

Know What Products Not to use

A common mistake made with marble flooring tiles is when homeowners use their regular cleaning products on the marble. Marble is very sensitive to chemicals and acids, so if you are using general flooring cleaner when mopping marble floors, it will do a lot of damage. Make sure the cleaning products you use on the floors don't contain any type of ammonia, acidic ingredients from lemons or oranges, or vinegar. There is far too much acid in these ingredients for marble. Instead, only use a cleaner specifically labeled as safe for marble.

Use Water Only For Regular Cleaning

When you are just doing some daily cleaning of the marble tile, there is nothing wrong with just hot water and a soft mop, or sponge when you have some spills you need to clean up. Water actually does wonders for marble, since the floor is sealed and food should wipe away easily. However, it is also smart to have a good floor cleaner that is meant specifically for marble tile.

Protect the Marble Surface

When you have marble flooring in your home, it is best that you have area rugs in high-traffic areas. This keeps you from dealing with scratches, spills, and stains. In your kitchen, have rugs underneath where the sink is and close to the countertops. Have a long runner rug near the entry and at least a small rug to capture dirt and mud inside all doors that lead outside.

If you intend to hire a professional cleaning service for your home, make sure they know you have marble flooring tiles and that they are aware of products to use.

An Easter Celebration

Growing up, I was extremely close to my family. In fact, I lived with my parents and my sister until I married my husband eleven years ago. Unfortunately, I moved seventy-five long miles away from my family after my wedding. But I still visit my childhood home at least once each month. Our growing family also still celebrates all of the major holidays including Easter. Because my husband and I plan to start a family soon, we hope to begin hosting more family gatherings at our home. When this takes happens, I know I will need help cleaning my house. On this blog, I hope you will discover how hiring cleaning services can help you plan a stress-free Easter celebration.
