3 Things You Need To Know About Caring For Stains On Your Carpet

Blog

Knowing how to care for your carpets is essential to the life of the flooring. If you can properly care for your carpet you can prolong its life for years, otherwise you may need to replace it more often than necessary. One of the important things you need to know about caring for your carpet is knowing how to properly clean up spills. Here are some things you need to know about cleaning spills.

1. Keep The Spill Moist

One of the most important things you should do is keep the spill moist until you can fully clean it up. The reason for this is that when the liquid dries it will soak into the fibers of the carpet and get down into the pad. Once this happens it is far harder to remove than when it is damp and soft.

Ideally you should be cleaning the spill the moment it happens; however that is not always possible. In some cases you may not have the right materials and supplies on hand, or you simply may not have the time. The best thing you can do is get a towel wet and lay it over the spill until you can fully clean it. This will prevent it from becoming permanent.

2. Use The Right Temperature Of Water

Another important thing to know is what temperature of water to use for the spill. Different liquids will respond to the temperature of cleaning supplies and if you use the wrong temperature you could easily make it worse. For example, blood based stains should never be cleaned with warm water. The warm water will cause the blood to spread and make the spill worse. Instead, cold water is the best. Conversely, milk based stains will harden and become more resistant if you use cold water. For these stains you need to use warm water to break up the enzymes in the milk and make it easier to remove.

3. Dab, Never Rub

Lastly, you should always dab a stain, never rub it. Instinct may tell you to take the towel and just rub out the area, but that will cause the stain to sink deeper and spread. Instead, you should get a clean towel and dab the area. When you dab you transfer the stain to your towel rather than spread it around. Each time you dab you should use a new part of the towel. This will be the most effective way to remove the stain.

By understanding these things you can properly care for spills on your carpet. For more help, contact a local carpet cleaners.

An Easter Celebration

Growing up, I was extremely close to my family. In fact, I lived with my parents and my sister until I married my husband eleven years ago. Unfortunately, I moved seventy-five long miles away from my family after my wedding. But I still visit my childhood home at least once each month. Our growing family also still celebrates all of the major holidays including Easter. Because my husband and I plan to start a family soon, we hope to begin hosting more family gatherings at our home. When this takes happens, I know I will need help cleaning my house. On this blog, I hope you will discover how hiring cleaning services can help you plan a stress-free Easter celebration.
