Keep Your Tile Looking Like New While Following Eco-Friendly Cleaning Practices

Blog

There are plenty of excellent tile-cleaning products on the market that will keep your tile bright and shiny. Unfortunately, these products are filled with harsh chemicals that you won't want to use around your children and pets. Instead, considering switching to a few eco-friendly cleaning practices. Not only are they safer, but they'll work just as well to keep your flooring looking like new.

Dry Mop the Floors

In between cleanings it is important to keep dirt from damaging the flooring. A tiny pebble, for example, brought in on a shoe can cause a scratch on the surface of the tile, or chip away at the grout. At the end of the day, run a dry mop across the flooring to collect all the dust and particles that have landed on your floor throughout the day.

Vacuum When Needed

Instead of dry mopping, you have the option of vacuuming the flooring. Simply set the vacuum to bare floors and slowly run vacuum across the tile. The advantage of the vacuum is the hose attachment, which will help you collect dust and dirt from the corners and edges of the flooring.

Disinfect with Vinegar

When you're ready to give the tile floors a good cleaning, use a vinegar solution that is safe for the environment. Vinegar is also an excellent disinfectant, which will help rid your tile of harmful bacteria. The best way to do this is to fill a plastic spray bottle with one part 5 percent vinegar and three parts water. Shake the spray bottle and then squirt it on the section of tile you plan to clean. Wipe with a rag thoroughly before moving on to the next section of tile. Repeat until your entire floor has been cleaned.

Remove Stains with Baking Soda

Whether you have stains or stuck-on foods that have attached themselves to your tile or within the grout, you can successfully remove them with a baking soda paste. Simply drip one part water into three parts baking soda until it forms a paste. Pour the paste over the stain and rub with the bristles of a soft toothbrush. Rinse clean with a little water and a rag and you're all done.

Keeping up with routine maintenance, such as following the steps listed above, is the best way to prolong the life of your tile flooring. If you come across any stain or damage to your flooring that you cannot repair yourself, then it's time to call in the professionals (such as those from Leo's Holland Floor Maintenance).

An Easter Celebration

Growing up, I was extremely close to my family. In fact, I lived with my parents and my sister until I married my husband eleven years ago. Unfortunately, I moved seventy-five long miles away from my family after my wedding. But I still visit my childhood home at least once each month. Our growing family also still celebrates all of the major holidays including Easter. Because my husband and I plan to start a family soon, we hope to begin hosting more family gatherings at our home. When this takes happens, I know I will need help cleaning my house. On this blog, I hope you will discover how hiring cleaning services can help you plan a stress-free Easter celebration.
