How Do You Remove Soap Scum From A Dishwasher?

Blog

Maintaining a clean dishwasher free of soap scum is essential if you want your dishes to be clean and shiny. Neglecting it can leave a white residue behind that doesn't look healthy. It is because the soap scum, food scraps, and grease have compromised your clean dishes. Here are some ways to combat the scum.

When You Should Clean

If you use your washer daily, it is beneficial to use one of these methods monthly. If the dishwasher isn't used regularly, every three months should be sufficient. Anytime your dishes don't sparkle, it might be a good indication it is time for a deep cleaning.

What Spots You Should Pay Extra Attention To

Be sure you cover every surface of the washer including the roof of the washer, the entire base, sides, cutlery holder, and racks. Be sure to remove the bottom rack and remove any yucky debris that might be stuck in the drain.

Tips For Basic Cleaning of All Areas

Use a bucket of hot soapy water (you can add white vinegar), an old toothbrush or small scrub brush, and a soft abrasive cleaner to scrub the corners that are difficult to clean. Use a sponge to clean the larger surfaces.

You can also place a cup of white vinegar on a top or bottom rack and run the dishwasher on the hottest cycle. The vinegar works as an agent to sanitize and leave the unit clean and fresh smelling.

Tips For Deep Cleaning

Also, it is advisable to remove the filter and soak it in warm soapy water. For the bottom of the dishwasher, sprinkle some baking soda to soak overnight for extra stubborn stains. You can also scrub them with eucalyptus oil or lemon/citrus oil. Use a scrub brush or toothbrush to agitate the corners and run the unit without anything but the racks and filters in it.

Tips For a Homemade Multi-Purpose Cleaner

You don't have to worry about store bought cleaners if you have a spray bottle and a few added ingredients. Add 1 part water to 3 parts of peroxide, and 10 drops each of Eucalyptus and Lemon essential oil. It should be stored in a dark brown container (the peroxide bottle is great), so it doesn't lose its chemical properties. You can spray this on the dishwasher regularly in between the deep-cleaning times.

If you don't have a good cleanser, but you do have a package of unsweetened lemonade, you can use it in place of the vinegar to remove some of the scum.

These processes should keep your dishwasher clean and sanitary as well as extend its lifetime. After all, no one wants to use dishes coated in a layer of soap scum. For more tips or assistance cleaning your dishwasher, contact a company like Deep Cleaning.

An Easter Celebration

Growing up, I was extremely close to my family. In fact, I lived with my parents and my sister until I married my husband eleven years ago. Unfortunately, I moved seventy-five long miles away from my family after my wedding. But I still visit my childhood home at least once each month. Our growing family also still celebrates all of the major holidays including Easter. Because my husband and I plan to start a family soon, we hope to begin hosting more family gatherings at our home. When this takes happens, I know I will need help cleaning my house. On this blog, I hope you will discover how hiring cleaning services can help you plan a stress-free Easter celebration.
